バクテリオファージは細菌にのみ感染するウイルスで、薬剤耐性菌にも殺菌作用を示すため新たな治療戦略として注目されています。しかし、感染宿主域が狭く耐性菌が出現しやすいという課題があります。私は、細菌株間で保存性の高い外膜分子に基づく新規ファージ療法を提案し、複数のファージを戦略的に組み合わせることでこれらの弱点を克服できると考えています。本研究では詳細な感染メカニズムの解明と併せて、世界的に深刻化する薬剤耐性菌感染症への革新的治療法の基盤構築を目指しています。Bacteriophages are viruses that specifically infect bacteria and demonstrate potent bactericidal activity against drug-resistant bacteria, positioning them as a promising new therapeutic strategy. However, their characteristically narrow host range and the emergence of phage-resistant bacterial strains present significant challenges for clinical application. I propose a novel phage therapy strategy based on targeting bacterial outer membrane molecules that exhibit high conservation across different bacterial strains. By strategically combining multiple phages with complementary host ranges, this approach can potentially overcome these inherent limitations.
