ファージ、それは細菌にのみ感染するウイルスです。体内にも土壌にも深海にも、至る所に存在し、非常に多様で、その数は 1031 にもなるとされ膨大の一言につきます。そして、現在深刻な問題となっている薬剤耐性菌に感染 （殺菌）できることから近年注目を集めています。しかし、ファージは生物学的にダークマターであり、その詳細はまだまだ未解明な部分が多いです。そのため、私の研究ではファージの臨床（≒病院）での応用を目指し、幅広くファージを集め生理学的／遺伝学的な調査をし、より効果的なファージの使い方を探求しています。Phages are viruses that infect only bacteria. They are ubiquitous in the body, soil, and deep sea, and are extremely diverse, numbering as many as 1031. Recently, phage have attracted attention because they can infect (sterilize) drug-resistant bacteria, which are currently a serious problem. However, bacteriophages are biologically dark matter, and their details are still largely unknown.
